Webster Selectmen Vote Out Town Accountant
Last night, selectmen in Webster voted 4 to 1 not to renew town accountant Pamela Leduc’s contract when it expires in July. She will remain on the payroll until then, but will not report to work.
There were many concerns raised by Town Administrator Douglas Willardson, who pushed for voting Leduc out of her position. A report from the Department of Revenue showed several concerns including the need to address deficiencies in financial management practices.
The report states Webster has been unable to fulfill some responsibilities including reconciling cash and receivables to submit reports to the DOR’s Division of Local Services, which could put Webster in the position of losing state aid.
Not only were clerical issues, but also cash flow problems and monetary errors which is estimated at costing town taxpayers approximately $800,000.
Leduc is accused of not properly funding the town’s portion of health insurance which resulted in a large deficit.
Even though Leduc’s business practices were questionable, it is important to point out that she did not do anything illegal while working for the town.
In Leduc’s 17 years working for the town she made note that she had made some controversial decisions but always had the best interests of the town in mind.
We have reached out to the Town Administrator’s office and Town Accountant’s office for comment. We are waiting for a reply. This page will be updated when a statement is received.
