On Saturday, January 15th just before 10 AM, firefighters responded to 51 Richardson Corner Road in Charlton to extinguish a stubborn house fire. The Dudley Fire Department said, cold temperatures “hampered fire operations, as water from hose lines instantly froze on ladders, hose, and other equipment that needed to be used to bring the fire under control.”  The extreme cold also took a toll on all the fire personnel on the scene. Fortunately, all of the occupants escaped unharmed, and there were no reported firefighter injuries.

Oxford Police have announced the arrest of a 56-year-old Roland Hurley of Worcester after a crash in town at 7 PM on Monday night. The accident happened on Sutton Avenue near McDonald’s, and the driver of the vehicle left the scene heading on Route 395 South exiting at Cudworth Road, and headed North on Main Street. Police say, the driver parked the vehicle and fled into the woods near 94 Main Street. The Oxford and Charlton Police K-9 units began searching for the suspect.  Hurley was charged with OUI Liquor 4th offense or greater, (7th offense), leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, driving without a license and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.…

A Rhode Island correctional officer from Thompson is accused of having inappropriate relations with an inmate. RI State police said the ACI Investigations Unit arrested 36-year-old Justin Toye on Sunday.  Toye was arraigned on three counts of correctional employees having sexual relations with inmates. In a statement from Corrections Director Patricia Coyne-Fague, “Any display of unethical behavior has the potential to tarnish the good work of the dedicated staff in this agency, and we have zero tolerance for it.  Any employee who is found guilty of violating those standards and the public’s trust, will be held fully accountable for their actions.”, Toye was arraigned and released on recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court…

On Saturday night at 9:40 PM, Troopers from the State Police – Millbury Barracks responded to reports of a two car crash on Route 146 northbound in Uxbridge. When the Troopers arrived on scene they discovered two vehicles collided as the result of a wrong-way operator. The 35-year-old operator of a 2004 Honda Accord, Jonathan Marmol of Woonsocket Rhode Island was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Marmol was driving southbound when he crossed the median into the northbound side of the highway striking another vehicle.  Both cars became engulfed in flames.  The other driver, a 62-year-old male from West Boylston was treated at the scene for minor injuries. In a post to the community on Facebook, UMass Memorial Health has updated their hospital visitor policy.  Effective on December 4th, the health centers have implemented a “no visitor policy” in the Emergency departments at Harrington Webster and Southbridge. The post blames “the recent uptick in COVID” cases.  The no visitor policy has also been activated at the North Medical Surgery Unit in Southbridge. The Dudley Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Route 131 near Mill Road in the early morning hours of December 4th.  Crews found a single car had crashed into a guard rail and caught fire.  The driver and lone occupant was uninjured and was able to exit from the vehicle on his own. The road was shut down for about an hour as crews cleared the scene.

Webster Police Make Drug Arrest On North Main Street

On Friday, October 22, Webster Police officers patrolling North Main Street in the area of Gilbert’s market initiated a traffic stop at around 8:30 PM.  The suspect identified as 33-year-old Ryan Christian of Dudley was already wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants had to be physically removed from the back seat of the vehicle. Webster Police say Christian is “known to have been involved with the illicit sales of drugs” in the community.  He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.  Officers recovered $210 in cash from Christian’s hand, as well as a sandwich bag containing what appeared to be crack cocaine.  Police also found another bag that contained seven smaller bags of what officers…

An angry father from Leicester is facing several charges after breaking into a Dudley home where his daughter was staying with another man. Dudley Police say 40-year-old Jeffrey Sprague was arrested this morning on charges including attempted murder, assault and battery, home invasion, and breaking and entering. Officers responded to the home on Dudley-Southbridge Road just before 11 PM on Tuesday night where a 39-year-old man was suffering from knife wounds to his face, neck chest, and arm.  He was taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester and is in stable condition.   According to a press release from Dudley Police Chief Steve Wojnar, “Initial investigation revealed both residents were in bed asleep” when the…
