An investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troopers ended in the parking lot of East Main Plaza in Webster on Thursday night.  Police say at around 8PM on September 5th, Troopers followed a vehicle to the shopping center where they witnessed what they believed to be a narcotics transaction take place. According to police, a female suspect exited the vehicle they had followed, and Troopers watched her get into another car for a short time, and return to the original vehicle.  The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Monica Fairbanks of Webster.  Also in that vehicle was 31-year-old Carly Fifield of Webster and 46-year-old Richard Loosemore of Holland.  Police say they found 3 packets of heroin belonging…

Cudworth Road Bridge To Close For Next Several Weeks

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Webster Police have announced a road closure for a section of Cudworth Road beginning on Monday, August 26th. No thru traffic will be allowed at any time while repairs are made to the bridge that carries Cudworth Road over Route 395 in Oxford.  Delays are expected for those who normally get on or off Route 395 at Exit 2 or 3. Detour signs will be posted to help motorists find their way around.  All on and off ramps will remain open, however there will be no access to the bridge for an estimated 30 days. A third human case of EEE, or eastern equine encephalitis has been diagnosed in a person from Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  The man, over the age of 60 is believed to have been exposed to the virus in northern Franklin County.  Additionally, one horse from Uxbridge and another from Mendon have also tested positive for the virus. Officials say even though the virus is rare, it is still serious and may affect people of all ages.  EEE is generally spread to humans through the bite of a mosquito infected with the virus and can cause severe illness or death. Over $3,000 worth of marijuana and $900 in cash was found during a traffic stop on Route 16 in Webster this week.  Webster Police say that an officer spotted a driver with an outstanding warrant near Honey Farms on Tuesday, August 20th around 10AM. The operator of the vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Ruben Viruet-Stevens of Worcester.  While being placed in custody, the officer noticed a large amount of money and marijuana shavings scattered around the front seats of the car. A passenger, 34-year-old Allan Putelis of May Street in Webster, was also removed from the vehicle. The Webster Police Department have intercepted a kilogram of cocaine that was sent through the U.S. Postal Service. In a press release, Chief of Police Mike Shaw said the department received an anonymous tip.  Detective Christopher Trainor, who is also a member of the DEA High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force in Worcester, conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of 46-year-old Lisandro Bermudez Negron of Springfield. After striking a parked car and a brief struggle, officers were able to arrest Negron on Granite Street in Webster.  He was charged with trafficking cocaine over 200 grams. It estimated to be worth $30,000. Negron was held on $5040 bail at the Webster Police Department.…

The Dudley Police Department was visited by the folks at Venture Community Services in Sturbridge on Thursday afternoon with a generous donation of backpacks for local students. Police have announced that two 16-year-old juveniles, one male and one female, have been arrested in connection to a recent armed robbery at Patriot Gas in Dudley.  The pair was taken into custody by the Connecticut State Police. Police say the male is from Hamden, CT and the female is believed to be from Canterbury, CT.  Both will face charges in Connecticut in connection with several similar robberies there, according to Dudley Police. They are expected to be returned to Massachusetts at a future date to face charges of armed robbery while masked and other offenses.  Evidence was recovered from these individuals which included clothing, masks, and a silver and black pellet pistol. Webster Police have announced that 2 of their cruisers were involved in crashes this week.  The first accident took place over the line in Oxford last Thursday involving Officer Jacek Ochocki as he  was traveling on Cudworth Road over the bridge by Route 395.  Police say a minivan swerved into his lane and struck his cruiser head-on.  The cruiser sustained extensive front-end damage, but luckilly neither the officer, nor the operator of the other vehicle, had significant injuries.  That collision is being investigated by the Oxford Police Department and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. Just before 6 PM on Tuesday, July 30th, Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Sturbridge Barracks observed a gray Honda Accord speeding on Route 84 through Sturbridge. The vehicle was observed traveling 65 miles per hour in a posted 50 mile per hour zone.  Once the driver was pulled over, 28-year-old David Baez-Vega of Springfield, gave consent to search the vehicle.  Police say as a result of the search, over one kilogram of a substance believed to be cocaine was found tightly wrapped in plastic.  Baez-Vega was arrested and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Dudley Police are looking for help from the public after they responded to a report of an armed robbery at Patriot Gas convenience store, located at 251 West Main Street.
