On Saturday, May 26th just after 11PM, Worcester Police responded to the area of Holland Road and Main Steet for a report of gunshots.

Police observed a group of 4 young males tending to a 16 year old male lying in the road, suffering from a gunshot wound, near 1232 Main Street.  Worcester EMS treated him at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital.

Officers taped off the area and secured the scene while collecting evidence.

The victim was pronounced dead just before midnight at the hospital.  His name has not been released.

The preliminary investigation indicates a group of males was walking to a nearby home when several shots rang out.  Some neighbors confused the gunshots with fireworks.

After the shooting a male was seen getting into a small vehicle and then drive off from the scene.  The description of the male and the vehicle are being sought after by investigators, but has not been released to the public.

This is the first homicide Worcester Police have investigated so far this year, and the first death by firearm in over a year, as there were none recorded in 2017.

Worcester Police say the investigation is ongoing, if anyone has information about this incident it can be sent by anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD + your message, by phone at (508) 799-8651 or online at worcesterma.gov/police.
