The Oxford Fire Department has announced the retirement of Fire Chief Sheri Bemis.  She has served the people of Oxford for over 30 years.  In her time in the department Chief Bemis held the titles of ALS Coordinator, EMS Coordinator, ALS Supervisor, Assistant Director of Oxford Ambulance, and the ranks of Lieutenant, Assistant Chief and Fire Chief.  In 1999 Chief Bemis was the first full time female firefighter and paramedic for the Town of Oxford and in 2010 she became the first full time female Fire Chief in Massachusetts.

Chief Bemis was one of the first credentialed fire Chiefs in Massachusetts. Chief Bemis has received many awards during her tenure at Oxford Fire-EMS with the most recent being the 2015 Fire Chief’s Leadership in Fire Education Award. Chief Bemis valued training and always made sure that the members of the department were educated and safe under her watch.

The Department and the town of Oxford wish the very best for Chief Bemis in her retirement, and thank her for the decades of service to the community.
