Uxbridge Doctor Accused Of Illegally Distributing Adderall

An Uxbridge doctor and her former employee were arrested on Friday, November 16th, and charged in connection with a federal drug conspiracy involving the amphetamine Adderall.

According to a press release shared by the Southborough Police Department, 56 year old Dr. Leslie Caraceni of Uxbridge, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute Adderall and three counts of distributing and dispensing Adderall.

Her former employee, 51 year old Rene Ruliera of Southborough, was also indicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute Adderall, and four counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute Adderall.

Caraceni and Ruliera appeared in federal court in Boston yesterday afternoon.  The state’s medical board is preventing Caraceni from renewing her medical license.  She previously ran MetroWest Mind Body Spirit in Whitinsville.

According to the indictment, between March 2016 and February 2018, the pair conspired with one another and others to distribute Adderall for reasons other than for a legitimate medical purpose and not in the usual course of medical practice.

Adderall is a medication used to treat attention deficit disorder and narcolepsy that is made with a combination of amphetamine salts that affect the parts of the brain and central nervous system that control hyperactivity and impulses.

Each charge provides a sentence of as much as 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.  Sentences will be imposed by a federal district court judge at a future date if they are found guilty.
