Former Charlton Firefighter Richard Powers Dies

The Charlton Fire Department has announced the passing of former firefighter, EMT and Charlton Ambulance Director Richard Powers.  The spokesperson for the department says, “Rich came on to the fire department in the late 1980’s as a Call Firefighter, and later taking on the role of Ambulance Director in 1995.”

A longtime resident of Charlton, Powers died on Sunday, March 25th after a long illness.  He leaves behind his wife, Diana, sons Scott and Jason, and 3 grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday, March 28 at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street in Southbridge.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Thursday, March 29 at St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church, 126 Morris Street in Southbridge.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.

The Charlton Fire Department says Richard “was often at the station sharing a laugh and his wisdom with new firefighters. A friend and mentor to the department who will be missed.”

Richard Powers was 71.
