Warren Woman Identified In Fatal Palmer Crash
Troopers from the Charlton State Police Barracks responded to a 2 vehicle crash which resulted in the death of a Warren woman on Thursday afternoon.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Chris Brown indicates 52 year old Mary Gibbons of Warren was traveling on The MassPike eastbound in Palmer at a high rate of speed when her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer entered the breakdown lane striking the guardrail. The trailblazer bounced off the guardrail into the side of a tractor trailer, then rolled over ejecting the driver, coming to rest on its roof in the middle of both lanes.
Gibbons was transported to Wing Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead. The operator of the tractor trailer was not injured. All lanes of the highway were closed for 45 minutes, and 2 travel lanes were closed for another 6 following the crash.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
